Meet Your New ASTA Member Services Coordinator
Jasmine Causey, ASTA Small Business Services Coordinator, is the point person who assists ASTA Small Business members with any membership needs.
What led you to ASTA , and what experience do you bring to the associations?
I graduated from Virginia Tech in May 2013 with dual degrees in international studies and philosophy. I found ASTA by searching associations. Having that international component peaked my interest, so I applied. I was hired as a database coordinator, in which I applied my experience in technology and customer service.
I attended one ASTA Small Business Conference, and a special bond instantly formed between me and ASTA Small Business agents. They were so friendly and welcoming! It was a natural progression for me to move into the ASTA Member Services Coordinator role. I really enjoy assisting ASTA members and creating new relationships with them.
Where are you based? What do you like about working remotely?
I am based in North Charlotte, North Carolina, with my husband. This is the closest I’ve lived to a big city. The shopping is great, the community is amazing, everybody is really friendly. I like the advantages of being close to a big city. There’s always something to do and fun to be had. They also have Carowinds. I’m a big amusement park fan.
I like working remotely. Because it eliminates my commute time, I have time to enjoy my church’s youth group activities. Plus, it helps me relate to our ASTA Small Business members, since they work remotely as well.
What’s one of your favorite hobbies—when and how did you pick it up?
I don’t know if it’s so much of a hobby, but it does take up a lot of my free time: My mother was a Sunday School teacher for as long as I can remember. So, I’ve always been involved in youth ministry. I teach Sunday School, with 4-year-olds. I also volunteer with our youth ministry, which is seventh grade and up. I enjoy being able to be part of that.
What destinations are on your bucket list? What are some of your favorite travel activities?
I really want to go to Russia. I was a Russian minor—I speak terribly, but I can read pretty well—so I think that would get me pretty far.
I like to eat my way through travel. I’m willing to try anything I’m not allergic to. That’s my rule. I have to try it once. I like visiting historical sites or museums, to learn more about the history. I like having casual conversations with locals, who often tell me what they like about where they live.
What are you most excited about in your new role as ASTA Small Business Member Services Coordinator?
I’m excited to have the opportunity to work more closely with ASTA Small Business members. I started helping them with technology in my previous role. Now, I can help them with more aspects of their membership. I’m here to help! I want to be an asset to the ASBN community.
